Beta Kappa Housing Corporation
Text Message Program
Effective September 8, 2026. Published by Beta Kappa Housing Corporation, the House Corporation of the Beta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Chi at the University of Oklahoma.
We are not sending text messages yet. This page describes the program before it starts, so that anyone deciding whether to join can read the rules first.
The single most important rule: being a member, or the parent of one, does not sign you up for texts. You are enrolled only if you ask to be.
1Program at a glance
- Program name. Beta Kappa Sigma Chi — Chapter Notifications.
- Operated by. Beta Kappa Housing Corporation, the House Corporation of the Beta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Chi at the University of Oklahoma.
- Who can join. Members aged 18 or over, and parents or guardians of members.
- What we send. Dues and payment reminders, contract signature reminders, deadline notices, and urgent chapter or house announcements.
- How often. Roughly 2 to 6 messages a month, higher around a dues deadline and quiet between semesters.
- Cost. We charge nothing. Message and data rates may apply from your mobile carrier.
- To stop. Reply STOP to any message.
- For help. Reply HELP, or email mark@bksigs.com.
2How you join
There are three ways, and each requires you to act:
- Ticking an unchecked box on a form on this site.
- Signing a paper form at a chapter or parent event.
- Asking an officer directly, in writing, to add your number.
A box for text messages is never pre-ticked, and consent to texts is collected separately from consent to email. Agreeing to one is not agreeing to the other.
We do not buy, rent, or import phone lists. Every number in the program was given to us by the person who owns it, for this purpose.
3The consent language
This is the exact wording that appears next to the box, so there is no question afterward about what was agreed:
“I agree to receive text messages from Beta Kappa Housing Corporation about dues, contracts, deadlines, and chapter announcements at the mobile number I have provided. Message frequency varies, roughly 2–6 messages per month. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel or HELP for help. Consent is not a condition of membership or of any purchase.”
That last sentence is a promise as well as a legal formality: nothing about your standing in the chapter depends on whether you accept texts.
4Members under 18
We do not enrol anyone under 18. Recruitment sometimes reaches high school seniors who are still 17, and a prospective member that age should use email until his birthday.
A parent's consent enrols the parent's own number. It does not enrol their son, who is an adult and signs up for himself.
5Stopping
Reply STOP to any message. You will get one confirmation that you have been removed, and then nothing further.
You can also email mark@bksigs.com and ask, or tell any officer. We keep a permanent record of the opt-out itself — that is how we make sure a later roster import does not quietly add you back.
Opting out of texts does not unsubscribe you from email, and it has no effect at all on your membership, your standing, or your son's.
6What we will not do
- We will not share your mobile number with anyone for their own marketing. Ever.
- We will not send texts to a number we were given for another purpose — an emergency contact number is for emergencies.
- We will not use texts to solicit donations.
- We will not send a text at an unreasonable hour except in a genuine emergency involving the house or a member's safety.
7Carriers and delivery
Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery depends on your carrier and your handset, and we cannot guarantee it — which is why anything that genuinely matters, such as an invoice or a contract, is always sent by email as well.
Supported carriers may change without notice.
8Privacy
Mobile numbers collected for this program are handled as described in our Privacy Policy. They are stored in our CRM alongside your other contact details and are visible to the officers whose role requires it.
9Changes
If the frequency or the types of message change materially, we will update this page and say so in a message before the change takes effect. Carriers hold us to what is published here, and so should you.
