The members of the Beta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Chi are extremely excited that your son chose Sigma Chi Fraternity — it is truly a privilege to share in this chapter of his life.
Sigma Chi is a fraternity founded in Christian principles, with a goal of assisting in the development of students into leaders of the future, and a focus based in friendship, justice, and learning.
Becoming a member of Sigma Chi might very well be the best decision your son will make during his college experience. He should experience deep, lifelong friendships only made possible by the strength of our brotherhood. Whether it be competing in intramurals, studying together, or toasting a brother at his wedding, brothers of Sigma Chi will always be along for his lifelong journey.
At Sigma Chi, we believe the health of an organization is determined by the quality of its members. The requirements for becoming a Sigma Chi are set forth in the Jordan Standard, which ensures that men who are invited to pledge are worthy of membership.

The Jordan Standard
The confidence of the Founders of Sigma Chi was based upon a belief that the principles which they professed, and the ideal of the Fraternity which they sought, were but imperfectly realized in the organizations by which they were surrounded.
The standard with which the Fraternity started was declared by Isaac M. Jordan to be that of admitting no man to membership in Sigma Chi who is not believed to be:
- A man of good character
- A student of fair ability
- With ambitious purposes
- A congenial disposition
- Possessed of good morals
- Having a high sense of honor
- And a deep sense of personal responsibility
What We Expect
Hard Work, College Life, and Responsibility
The three things we ask of every member, and the policies that sit behind them.
Hard Work
Scholastics first, and making grades. This is your son’s job while he is at OU, and the chapter is built to support it — study hours, test files, tutoring, and scholarships for the men who perform.
College Life
Enjoy the college experience. For many, it is the first time away from home. Decisions must be made and lessons learned, and there is a great deal on campus worth engaging with.
Responsibility
Man up and be accountable. We all make poor choices. We stress taking ownership, correcting the mistake in judgment, learning from it, and moving on — skills he will use for the rest of his life.
On hazing. Hazing is against the laws of Oklahoma, the Student Code of the University of Oklahoma, the rules of Sigma Chi International Fraternity, and the rules of our Chapter. Specifically, any physical abuse will not be tolerated.
On alcohol and substances. Sigma Chi brothers are expected to obey all municipal, state and federal laws, and the use of alcohol or any other controlled substance is no different. Sigma Chi does not condone drinking under the legal age, nor the use of any controlled drug without proper medical authorization. The use of illegal substances is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated.
